Hi, I’m Courtney and in case we haven’t met, I’m Theresa’s daughter and her newest book, Shared Courage, is about my story. I’m so honored to have inspired this lesson, that I truly believe everyone needs to learn – young or old.
I remember our day at Holiday World so vividly. I was so scared to ride the large waterslide. I didn’t want to move – up or down those tower of steps. Rides and heights aren’t my thing. Actually, I still get nervous on rides, if I’m being honest. But that day, Theresa and my Dad pushed me to act outside of my comfort zone, and I’m so thankful they did. As nervous as I was, that ride was exhilarating. I felt so alive, even being so young. It was the first time I felt proud of myself for pushing past the fear. Little did I know, that day would be the first of many where I’d have to step outside of my comfort zone.

It was a memory I cling to even now as an adult. If I can be courageous even for 60 seconds, I can do anything I put my mind to.
I encourage everyone to push themselves outside of their comfort zones. You never know who you’re inspiring. Young or old, experienced or veteran – you can always help others. A warm smile and a helping hand can go a long way.
Being courageous and sharing the bravery with loved ones is what makes the world go around.
Thank you for sharing your story. I love this book. I have read it to my grandchildren and yes even my husband and I shared it together.
So nice to hear comforting words. We can all take a lesson from your story.
Would love to read it.
